The Northrup King Building is actually a complex of 10 buildings first constructed in 1917. Originally built for and occupied by the Northrup King & Co. seed company, its location adjoining two sets of railroad tracks made it the ideal place to ship seeds across the United States.
Through an ongoing process of renovation, the Northrup King Building has become home to over 200 tenants, including more than 190 artists. Here you will find some of the most exciting open studio events in the Twin Cities area.
While some art studios have regular full-time hours, others are used as primarily production studios with limited event hours. Check the directory and call the particular artist or business direct for hours and information.
The Northrup King Building is open the first Thursday of every month from 5 to 9 pm and is home to two of the twin cities' biggest shows - Art-A-Whirl, which takes place in the spring in locations throughout NE Minneapolis and Art Attack, which takes place in the fall and is exclusive to this building only.
