The holdings of the Monterey Museum of Art encompasses several complementary collections, including Early California Painting (1875-1945); American Art (1875-1945); and Contemporary Art (1945-present).
La Mirada began as a modest stone adobe in the Mexican period, and was remodeled into a home for entertaining during the era of silent film. In 1994, the gallery wing was added to accommodate exhibitions that change several times a year.
