First opened to the public in 1942, the museum collection of nearly 2,500 works of American art includes 19th and 20th century paintings, sculptures, and works on paper.
Highlights are paintings from the “American Regionalist” group such as Thomas Hart Benton, Edward Hopper, and Grant Wood; art from the latter half of the 20th century including Alexander Calder, Robert Motherwell and Robert Rauschenberg; and art by an often under-represented group, Women Artists.
