Founded in 1975, the museum houses a core collection of decorative arts consisting of ceramics, glass, dolls, ivory, jade, and enameled metals.
The University Art Collection also includes prints, paintings, sculptures, textiles, carpets, wood, lacquered objects, silver, and furniture. The museum features eight to twelve annual changing exhibitions and permanent collection exhibitions.
Also on the ISU campus are the Elizabeth and Byron Anderson Sculpture Garden and the Christian Petersen Art Museum in Morrill Hall, and the Farm House Museum.
