The Museum is located in the original free public library that was built in 1906. Adapted as a Cultural Arts Center in 1980, and designated an art museum 1987, the Museum's primary focus is on the Southern California Art Experience. Artworks range from California Impressionism, which initiated the collection, to Contemporary trends including Latino Art.
An additional space directly adjacent to the Museum launched in 2013 to spotlight exhibits from the permanent collection, specialty exhibitions and guest studio artists. This satellite location is located at 329 North 5th St.
