Associated with Boston College, and originating in the 19th-century, the McMullen Museum's permanent collections span the history of art from Europe, Asia and the Americas.

The highlights of the collection include Flemish Gothic and Baroque tapestries, Italian paintings of the 16th- and 17th-centuries, and American paintings of the 19th- and early 20th-centuries.

Notable is a group of paintings and drawings by celebrated American artists John La Farge (1835-1910) and William Trost Richards (1833-1905).
