The University of Maine Museum of Art's permanent collection consists of more than 3,800 works, with a concentration in original prints and photography. 

The collection features work created since 1900 with particular emphasis on contemporary art (1945-present). Artists of note include: Max Beckmann, Georges Braque,  Richard Diebenkorn, Jim Dine, Helen Frankenthaler, David Hockney, Edward Hopper,  Käthe Kollwitz, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Motherwell, Pablo Picasso, Diego Rivera, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella and Andy Warhol, among others.

The Museum also has works by artists with significant ties to Maine including: Berenice Abbott, Winslow Homer, Alex Katz, Emily Muir, Neil Welliver and Andrew Wyeth.
