Housed in a handsome Romanesque Revival building, the Slater Museum collection includes fine and decorative art representing a broad range of world cultures of the Americas, Asia, Europe and Africa, plus historical artifacts and ethnographic material from five continents and 35 centuries.
Included are 18th – 20th century American paintings and decorative arts; work by contemporary and 20th century Connecticut craftsmen and artists, African art, and a collection of 227 plaster cast copies of ancient Egyptian, Archaic, Greek, Roman and Renaissance sculpture. The adjacent Converse Art Gallery hosts six changing exhibitions throughout the year.
