Located on the campus of Housatonic Community College, the Housatonic Museum of Art (HMA) collection spans the history of art from ancient to contemporary. The collection is on continuous display throughout the college campus and mounts changing exhibitions every 6 weeks.
The collection includes Greek pottery and an Egyptian sarcophagus, as well as prints, paintings, sculptures, ceramics and metalwork from China, Japan, India, Korea, the Islamic world and Southeast Asia. Also, ceremonial objects, masks and tools used in daily life from Africa, Oceania and the Americas.
Modern masters in the HMA’s photography collection include Henri Cartier-Bresson, Ansel Adams, and Cindy Sherman. The Museum also has an outdoor Sculpture Garden. The Burt Chernow Galleries offer changing exhibitions featuring national, regional and local artists as well as the annual faculty and student art shows.
Museum is a member of the Connecticut Art Trail, a partnership of 18 museums and historic sites. The Art Pass, which is good for a year, includes one-day admission to each museum.
