American landscapes are vast and unique, encompassing deserts, grasslands, and forests full of ecological richness and natural wonders. From the rugged, sweeping vistas of the Rocky Mountains and the serene beauty of the Great Lakes to the arid expanses of the Southwest deserts and the lush, dense forests of the Pacific Northwest, American landscapes have provided inspiration to artists for generations.

At the turn of the twentieth century, artists pushed the boundaries of traditional representation, embracing abstraction, and exploring new ways to interpret the natural world. Seeking to distinguish American Modernism from its European roots, many artists took inspiration from the country’s distinctive landscape.

Culturally, landscapes are more than mere backdrops; they are imbued with meaning, influencing traditions, national identity, and collective memory. They inform artistic expression and play a crucial role in cultural preservation. By understanding and valuing the land, we gain deeper insights into our heritage, the stories we tell, and the values we hold.
