Berlin-based artist Pan Daijing (China, b. 1991) creates immersive gallery environments, combining live choreography, architectural interventions, and the interplay of sound and moving image. Her works often include unstable materials such as ice and acid, substances that change and erode over time.
Daijing’s exhibitions find various starting points–storytelling, memories, histories of music–to form emotive landscapes full of poetry and visual rhyming. The artist’s atmospheric combinations of elements suggest psychological spaces of entropy, melancholia, and hope. Viewers and performers inhabit these installations, giving them a quality of shared social spaces in which relationships coalesce and fall apart.
In addition to her visual and performing arts practice, Daijing is an acclaimed composer and musician. She has released several albums to date, among them Tissues (2022), Jade (2021), and Lack (2017). Marking the artist’s first US museum solo show, the exhibition will present an installation conceived specifically for the Walker.
