Figures from the Fire:

This exhibition features nineteen small-scale ancient bronze sculptures that were purchased by J. Pierpont Morgan between 1904 and 1916 and given to the Wadsworth Atheneum by his son in 1917. Morgan chose each work for its craftsmanship, quality of composition and execution, and preservation. 

They represent the very best of ancient Mediterranean bronze sculpture—with carefully rendered clothing, hair, and fur, and adorned with inlays of silver and other luxury materials—and invite close inspection of their exquisite quality, complicated technology, and artistic detail.
