In Slavery’s Wake is a project and international exhibition on the history and afterlives of slavery. Over the next five years, the exhibition will be crafted collaboratively by a global network of museums, non-profits, university partners, and communities.
Travelling to Africa, Europe and the Americas, In Slavery’s Wake will shift the way we think about, talk about, and represent the history of slavery, race, and globalization and the continuing relevance of these histories to our world today. It's a project and international exhibition on the history and afterlives of slavery. Over the next five years, the exhibition will be crafted collaboratively by a global network of museums, non-profits, university partners, and communities.
The process of curating the show is just as crucial to the project as the final exhibition output. In creating a collaborative curatorial team and structure, In Slavery’s Wake aims to shift museum practice towards one that better incorporates the lived realities of people of African descent globally, aiding museums and cultural institutions to be better situated to provide communities a platform for generating conversations about the past’s relevance to the present.
