For more than 120 years, Phipps has been its city’s green oasis, connecting vistiors to the beauty and importance of nature, while advancing the role of the public garden in the fields of education, outreach and sustainable innovation. Beyond serving as a showcase for ever-changing seasonal flower displays, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is also home to a number of important permanent collections — from ornate orchids and frilly ferns to princely palms and curious cacti.

From Grecian urns and Japanese lanterns to stunning glass chandeliers and striking sculptures, beautiful and inspiring works of art abound throughout the Phipps campus. The Conservatory was built by philanthropist Henry W. Phipps in 1892, and the Phipps has inherited a number of special artworks — many of which have historical value. In the past decade, Phipps began to engage in collaborative exhibits with internationally-renowned glass artists including Dale Chihuly and Hans Godo Fräbel, and key pieces of these blockbuster shows were kept for permanent display throughout the Conservatory.

The BETA (Biophilia Enhanced Through Art) Project is an inspiring collection of art at the Center for Sustainable Landscapes (CSL) that includes paintings, sculptures and more. Showcasing the work of more than 20 local, national and international artists, it takes the CSL to a new level of sensory immersion.
