An extraordinary collection of 19th century art includes Hudson River artists and genre paintings -- plus reproductions of Renaissance and Baroque masterworks -- are displayed in ornate frames and hung in the original salon style, evoking an earlier era.
In addition to the remarkable interior, Bierstadt's The Domes of the Yosemite (1867) is a highlight. The Domes is unique in many ways, including its size, age, and historical significance. At nearly 10x15 feet, it is the largest work Bierstadt completed, even requiring the construction of special scaffolding to work on the painting. The painting will be out for restoration during the Winter of 2017, to be returned in the Spring of 2018.
